Authorities believe Phoenix Ikner to be the shooter in the Florida State University attack that resulted in two fatalities and five more injuries. Phoenix Ikner who is 20 years old belongs to the LCSO Youth Advisory Council and is the son of Leon County Sheriff’s deputy Jessica Ikner. The shooting was carried out using Ikner’s mother’s previously assigned service weapon according to official reports.

The weapon discovered at the shooting scene had been legally purchased by the sheriff’s deputy who owned the weapon at the time of the incident.

Leon County Sheriff Walter McNeil described Ikner as a long-standing participant in the sheriff's office's youth advisory council who completed multiple training programmes with the office. The sheriff’s office employed his mother for more than 18 years.

Who are the victims?

Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower stated that the two individuals killed in the shooting incident were not affiliated with the university as students. Authorities reported that five people were undergoing treatment at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and Phoenix Ikner was included among those receiving medical attention.

What information has been revealed about the shooting incident up to this moment?

Florida State University declared an active shooter alert near the student union at midday after gunfire was detected close to 11:50 am ET. In the vicinity of the incident students and parents took refuge at locations such as a bowling alley and a freight elevator. Hundred of students evacuated promptly after emergency teams reacted to the situation.

After the suspect did not follow officer commands police shot him and he did not shoot at them. The situation was under control by the afternoon.

After 3 pm EDT authorities lifted the campus lockdown but some areas like the student union stayed active crime scenes. The university declared a cancellation of classes and university events through Friday while athletic events were postponed until Sunday.
